Pleasantries:
- train rides
- the coast
- clotted cream
- words like "Picadilly"
- crepe stands with nice mustached men who address you as "my lady"
Unpleasantries:
- the exchange rate
- soggy breakfast burritos on the train
- the heating in my flat barely working
- irresponsible landlords
- creepy men on public transit
Colloquialisms I think I can pick up without sounding like an ass:
- flat (in place of apartment)
- term (in place of semester)
Colloquialisms I cannot pick up without sounding like an ass:
- fresher (in place of freshman) I've started saying "first year." I think this is an appropriate middle ground.
- fancy (in place of like)
- quid
- chuffed
Favorite writers/comedians/filmmakers (this list only exists because I realized that a number of famous people I like happen to share certain qualities, or rather, for each of the following categories, at least two people on this list will fall into it: gay, Jewish, man, neurotic, named David)
- David Sedaris
- David Rakoff
- David Ives
- Woody Allen
note to Ben West: you have 4/5 of these qualities,
which leads me to believe that you have the makings of a great entertainer
Why are there no lists? I'd like an itemized list, consisting of fifteen items, of which the last three are snarky. I'll do a guest post if you want.
